Declan and Kirsten were married at The Barn at Barra on a brilliant September day, one of those early autumn weddings where the light starts to soften but there’s still plenty of warmth in it.
Both of them got ready in separate lodges at Barra, which always makes the morning feel calm and contained. We’d planned a first look before the ceremony, which gave them a chance to see each other properly without an audience. It’s always a nice way to settle nerves and slow the day down for a few minutes before everything begins.
Their ceremony took place in the barn at 2pm, with Kirsten being walked down the aisle by her brother Stuart. Led by Diane Duncan, it was simple, personal and relaxed, surrounded by their closest people. Confetti followed outside, which always works well at Barra with that open space around the barn.
The afternoon rolled into drinks before dinner was called, and speeches from Declan, Sean and Stuart brought a good mix of humour and sentiment. With no evening guests arriving, it meant the whole day felt consistent, everyone there from start to finish.
As the light dropped, we made time for a night shot before the first dance, and later on the sparklers came out, always worth it when couples are up for it. With live music carrying the evening, the dance floor didn’t take long to fill.
Barra is one of those venues that works really well for this kind of wedding, relaxed, good space inside and out, and everything close enough that the day flows naturally.
A genuinely lovely September celebration.
